RIVERS WHERE WE CONDUCT OUR KAYAKING COURSES

At Riverine Adventures- Kayak School most of the kayaking instruction would be supervised by Dinesh Pandey who has gained much experience from paddling with some of the best kayakers from all around the world and teaching kayaking to many places in India. Now, over more than 15 years of distinct experience and invaluable local knowledge Dinesh has found a perfect spot to conduct beginners/basic to advance kayaking courses at his home town on the Ganga River and in its catchment.

The Mighty Ganga is one of the most sacred and renowned rivers in the world. The Ganga river begins at the hill town of Devprayag confluence of the Bhagirathi (the river is considered as the main source of the Ganga according to Hindu culture) and Alaknanda (the river is bigger and is generally regarded as the source of the Ganga). In India, rivers are considered sacred and the tributaries of the Alaknanda are also considered sacred, two of which Pindar and Mandakini, where we conduct our kayaking courses and tours for intermediate level paddlers.

For Intermediate to Advance level paddler we have some alpine style rivers to paddle like Tons and Yamuna rivers on the far western state border to Sarju and Kali river on the far eastern side of the border where there has been very less tourism but with easy access points which gives us a variety of sections of whitewater depending on our goals and aims throughout the trip to little road access which makes your journey through lush jungle, a perfect introduction to multiple days whitewater kayaking.

RIVERS TO PADDLE IN INDIA- WHITEWATER KAYAKING
ALL ABOUT KAYAKING IN INDIA

India is home to some of the most beautiful and challenging whitewater rivers in the world. The Himalayan mountain range in the northern part of the country is the source of many sacred rivers, which provide an ideal setting for whitewater kayaking.

Whitewater kayaking in India has a relatively short but vibrant history. The sport started gaining popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s when a few adventurous kayakers from Europe and the United States began exploring the country’s rivers.

One of the first commercial whitewater kayaking expeditions in India was organized in 1985 on the Ganges River by David Allardice, a British kayaker who had previously paddled the Amazon and the Nile. The Expedition was a success, and it paved the way for the development of commercial kayaking trips in India.

In the early 1990s, a few Indian kayakers began taking up the sport, and the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA) was formed in 1991 to promote the kayaking sport in the country. The IKCA has since Organized several national and international kayaking competitions and training programs.

Whitewater kayaking in India gained more exposure in the early 2000s when a few international kayaking magazines featured stories about the country’s rivers and expeditions. This led to an increase in the number of foreign kayakers visiting India to explore its rivers.

Today, there are several outfitters and adventure tour companies that offer guided kayaking trips throughout the Indian Himalayas, in addition to kayaking, many of these companies also offer other adventure activities, such as rafting, camping, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, motorbike tours, zipline tours, and some other activities. This makes India an ideal destination for adventure travelers who want to experience the country's natural beauty and challenging outdoor activities.
